Zombies, zombies and more zombies

Not my most up-to-date picture, but close. I'm actually at 1mil exp or so. Not sure what my current ranking is - but I'll check it later.

I've been spending the bulk of my time at zombies recently and have found it nice to be earning a steady return of money from fighting them. Just checked last night, I killed just under 1000 of them (995 or so) and gained 522 teeth and 5 drops (a green seraphis, a red arten, a black yellow-lined boot, a jacker and a white polyfeather hat). They're all NPC drops - but I'll leave them up on my sale thread on Sleepywood for a few days to see if anyone's interested.

Next up, I'll actually track how many unagi/mana elixirs I use and the equivalent exp and such. That's if I remember to of course.

Other than that though - zombies will be my recipe for a little while. I might head over to Victoria to finish up the Taurospears, but that's pretty much it.

Level 65 and some more

Well, its been a few days since my last update - mostly because I can't grab a picture of my character's ranking and I'm too lazy to post if I don't have one.

Anyway, over the weekend I finished off level 64 and managed to get up to 30-40% or something like that into level 65. I spent almost the entire time at Zombies and I'm pretty impressed with them.

I am, however, officially broke - as I've bought my last 60% glove attack scroll for level 70 and I haven't managed to sell anything of real worth in quite a while. I also bought a bunch of 100% shoe speed scrolls to increase my training speed when I don't have an assassin to train with. This gives me a +7 speed snowshoe, a +5 speed regular warrior boot, +10 speed from my cape and another +8 speed if I want to use my bone helm instead of my crusader.

Zombies are the menu for the rest of the level most likely - since turkeys have screwed up the hectors screen and I'm not likely to be hunting the cerebes horns I need for the level 65 cape quest any time soon...

I have an unofficial note saying that I've won the UnCon for the Core Colliseum on the Wizards boards - which is nice and goes well with my recent promotion to elder in that forum. In addition to my characters there, I am working on writing up a campaign for real life - though it may be a while before I get through it all.

Aside from all of this, I've been struggling with my poker. I'm hoping I can turn things around, but it will be a long road to get the bankroll back up to a reasonable amount.

Pepes, Hectors, Yetis

Tried a few different things this weekend, but the most notable of them all was pepes at the Crown Flyer. That map is high-paced and decent experience. The downside is that the pepes are so fast that you get bumped a fair amount. Since the bumps are about equivalent to hectors (a little less actually) and I don't have to worry about magic attacks - I like it. The other downside is the avoidability of the pepes - which I don't 100% hit without a sniper pill.

Pepes was a lot of fun solo. I trained for a short while with Vicism, the assassin, but found the rate a little slower for some reason - he probably had a lot more trouble than I did. Still, it was a nice change from the regular regimen of Hectors.

Vic and I also spent a fair amount of time at yetis at Icy Cold Field - and found it enjoyable and a nice change as well. This was on Friday night - so the Hector screen was pretty busy anyway.

Other than that I tried training at Grupins but was disgusted with the number of hackers there - so I just left after a little while.

I did manage to close out a bunch of trades though - and that has helped my money recover a little (or rather balance - I bought a bunch of things this weekend too...). I got a reasonable amount of drops this weekend, but nothing spectacular - a blue lined kismet, a sapphire clench and red gore boots most notable out of the bunch.

I'm tentatively planning on trying out Flyeyes in Aqua Dungeon for a bit since it came recommended to me from a fellow warrior - but other than that I might spend some time at Pepes trying to find a red katana or two to work with.

I'm at 71% to level 65 - 38 days until level 70.

Lusters

In order to aid my slightly stiffled wallet, I decided to head back to Orbis and fight some lusters for a while. The exp rate there is only slightly slower than hectors I think, but the expense is much lower. I probably won't stay too long, but it was nice to get 4 drops there in the 7% I earned last night.

I traded in about 1400 hector tails and 100 jeti skins but didn't get anything of note. Beyond that I managed to sell my 60% cape dex scroll for 2.5 million, but I also bought a few scrolls. I'm sitting on about 3.5 million at this point - give or take 100k or so. I have won a lot of auctions over the last few days, and I expect a lot of them will be resolved this weekend - so my money will probably dip considerably. I've already started buying my level 70 armors and I'm keeping an eye out for level 70 boots, and more top/bottom scrolls.

Eventually I'll need to take a vacation into Ludi and into Eos Tower to pick up some speed scrolls for boots - probably a dozen or so (7 for snowshoes, 5 more for my regular boots). This will help my training speed when I don't feel like wearing my icarus cape. It won't be a big difference, but it will help a little.

Hopefully this weekend I'll finish off the quest requiring the spirits from the taurospears - though if I can't it can wait - since the reward for the quest is just power elixirs. Probably would be better to just wait at this point.

Vicism and I have made tentative plans to take on Yetis and possibly do a few of the Zakum Party Quest portions to gain the Dead Mine Scrolls. Beyond that - my plans are pretty much to stick around what's comfortable for now - until I am ready to move on to zombies completely.

I'm still at 41 days to level 70 - two short training sessions has stiffled my progress. Still - I am edging the distance shorter every day. Its just a matter of time.

Upgraded my helm and bought a glove

Well, I finally got a 10% to work on one of my 3 silver crusader helms and decided to just finish it with 60%s - so now I've got a +5 Silver Crusader Helm with 1 10% and 4 60%s - its a fair amount better than the mithril one I had, so I'm pretty satisfied with it.

In addition I bought a rather pricey glove yesterday and emptied out most of my coffers to do it - including NPCing a bunch of the stuff that I had been procrastinating about for a while. It left me with about 1 million left, and a glove that I can't use for another 6 levels and its not even fully scrolled... +4 atk with 2 slots left. Probably not my best purchase, but I decided I just had to get it. I'll finish it with 60%s and just hope I get a +8 atk out of it.

Other than that it was frequent and efficient killing of hectors at Cold Field for about 9%. Since I did most of the trades with my main character, I had to spend more time traveling than usual. No one was really online to party with, so I just managed it solo for the night.

I've got to step up my efforts on gaining money, and as luck would have it there's finally a bid on one of my more expensive scrolls which will be instrumental in helping me regain that ground. I was kind of hoping to keep it for the future, but I'll take the money for now and worry about the consequences later.

Nothing to see here

Well, not much to post about from last night as it was much of the same - hectors and more hectors. One more green napoleon and a bunch of money, but other than that - nothing really to report.

I've been actively bidding on Basil to pick up the stuff I want and was pleased to see a Dark Husk for sale that interested me. I'm not sure if it is a good deal really, but it seemed like a good one even after I looked around for comparative prices.

The 2nd katana that I'm bidding on is already starting to get too high for me to truly want it. I'm going to put one more bid on it and just hope - and that's only if I can still get it for 1 million or less.

Other than that - it is a bunch of helmet and 1-handed sword scrolls. I should buy some more 60% shield scrolls, but those are pretty rare to come up on Basil and they tend to be a fair amount overpriced in my opinion.

For my own selling, not much has been moving, but I just need to be patient with it. I'm going to be lowering my prices on scrolls soon, but otherwise, I'm just waiting for the right buyer to come along.

Level 64, 42 days

Well, another solid night of progress last night as I finished off level 63. I partied most of the time with Vicism and for some of the time with a cleric in my guild, CdnMage. We tore apart hector after hector until I finally managed to level up. Once done, I spent a few more minutes there before heading over to Orbis to trade in another 16 sets of hector tails and one set of pang tails. Nothing special on the trade-ins, but it was harmless to trade in, so why not.

I didn't get any drops yesterday, amazingly enough, but I'm still doing well with the other drops I've gotten lately, so I'm not complaining. I did complete a few trades yesterday, mostly for helmet scrolls - which unfortunately all failed... I'm still hoping to have an improvement on my current helm - but I'll take what I can get.

This morning I have started aggressively bidding on some more scrolls - mostly helmet, but some others as well. I want a dark clench that's on the market, but there's no way I'd be able to compete with the bidding on it - not unless I magically was able to sell the rest of my equipment in the next day. Still, my money is steadily rising, and I hope to be back in the market for an attack glove soon - if only to have it for level 70.

I need to see about having someone in Ludi pass by the scroll seller and pick up some speed scrolls for some decent snowshoes and my camel boots. The extra speed is minimal, but at least it will help out on the days that Vicism isn't partied with me (and no other random sins/bandits come along...).

I'm still hopeful to reduce my time to level 70 some more, but realistically, the 42 days I'm estimating is probably pretty accurate. Next level, I should be able to use booster a little more often (right now it is still pretty expensive and only lasts 40 seconds - so it'll mostly be used against anticipated mobs).

More hectors... 44 days

I spent the bulk of the weekend at Hectors again. That place is just so comfortable to me and it has been great progress, I simply can't get enough of it. The fact that I get a good profit from it is just a sided bonus...

I'm now 85% of the way to level 64, and the level when booster starts being more reasonable to use on occasion. After I reach it, I'm considering heading back to Victoria and toughing it out at Spears until I get the requisite number of spirits for the quest I'm working on and then moving on to Wild Cargos. Knowing me though, I'll give up after a half hour and be back on my way to Orbis...

Good drops for the weekend, including a Crossbow attack scroll from Jetis, an 82atk Gold Crow (+6 above average...) and an average dark arten. For trade-ins, I received a 4th ancient scroll and I'm starting to think I need to drop my price to sell them...

I've gotten a fair number of trades done, but as always there are more to do. My money is slowly on the incline, but at least it is heading in the right direction. I'm now at about 8-9 million in cash, and I'm still sporting around 20 million worth of sellables.

Finally made some substantial progress towards reaching level 70. Down to 44 days, I'm hoping I can close the distance quickly...

Still at 49 days...

Well, my progress the last two nights have been so slight, that despite playing for 2 days, I still am forecasting 49 days to reach level 70. Its frustrating for sure, but the last two nights have been almost counter-productive with heading over to Victoria and finding mixed golems to be lukewarm and Taurospears to still be mostly deadly. I finished the night by heading back to El Nath and fought a few jetis before signing off for good. The plan was to fight them for a bit with Vicism (the sin I'm frequently partied with), but given that it is already the weekend, I have a feeling we'll end up heading back over to hectors or somewhere similar to avoid the crowds.

I managed to sell off my disgrace of an attack glove for 2.5 million. With the 13.5 million invested in the scrolls, plus the 500k for the glove itself, that puts me at a loss of 11.5 million from the action... rough to be sure. On a more positive note, I'm already well on my way to recovery - having someone win a bid on the jeweled katar for 900k, someone bidding on my Umber Shouldermail (current bid of 200k) and someone bidding on my one of my Serpent's Coils (current bid of 550k).

I'll probably put a few more things up on Basil for the weekend and see what comes of it. I'd rather sell them than go to the NPC, but I need to build up my cash a fair amount as well as free up some space in my inventory.

In other news, the CoCo (Core Coliseum at boards.wizards.com) is participating in the UnCon Convention, and I've submitted a strong melee build for it. It'd be nice to win, but since I'll likely end up being one of the judges, I will probably abstain from voting in the melee section.

Not sure what I expect to accomplish this weekend. I'm sitting at around 32% and in the past few weekends I've been gaining in the realm of 60-80% - so I can hope to finish off the level. To be more realistic, it might not happen until next week some time though.

Mixed Golems

I only managed to play for about an hour last night, having been involved for most of the night with cleaning of one sort or another and being overly frustrated with how my kids were behaving. Setting down to play some Maple Story did help to relax me, though, so that improved my mood once the kids did go to sleep and laundry was completely folded.

I decided to head back to Victoria to work on a few quests, figuring I would also give mixed golems a try. The first quest I decided to do was the 99 curse eye quest, but I apparently had already done it, so I've started the 999 one. I won't likely finish it any time soon, but it'll help for those times I'm passing through - just like the other similar quests.

Mixed golems weren't bad, but I think the place could really benefit from another warrior on the screen, because otherwise it is a fair amount of walking back and forth. Although I only gained about 4% while there, I think it is a reasonable exp rate. I'm still not sure if it is profitable, but I'll take a better measure of that the next time I play some.

I did finish one sale last night - the 2nd set of blue jangoon shoes I had sold for 115k, which is a spot better than the NPC value of 35k - so I'll take it. This morning I noticed bids on both my katar and my clench - so assuming they finish and I can find the buyers - that should help as well. I've got probably another dozen or so trades to finish up - but it might have to wait until tomorrow or Saturday, since most of my trades seem to finish up on the weekends.

Since I didn't play much last night, I'm on pace to reach level 70 in 49 days...

Solid progress

Got another solid night of hectors last night, partied with 2 others for most of the night. Earning 20% or so, I managed to recover much of the funds that I lost from the other night (well, okay only 1-2 mil of the 15 mil that I lost...) and a lucky trade-in netted me another Overall Dex scroll - so that should help immensely. I traded in a total of 2000 tails yesterday after accumulating them in 2 days.

Other than that, I still seem to be accumulating oodles of green napoleons - having found ~10 in the last 2 days. Other drops include a well above average magic defense Flame-Golden Circlet and a 77atk Gold Crow (76atk is average). In addition I sold a few of my extra drops to make room on my mule - so that's helping a little.

20% into the current level helped out, and I'm on pace to hit level 70 in 48 days or so. It would be great to maintain that rate, but we'll have to see how it goes.

Level 63!

Progress last night was great, but my money took a substantial hit at the same time.

I managed to get my 4th 60% glove attack scroll, so I decided I would bite the bullet and try to scroll my dark clench. The first one succeeded, but the 2nd and 3rd both failed. Now I have a +2 atk 2 slot Dark Clench that I'm trying to sell. Using my last scroll on it would be futile and even worse - if it failed would leave me in an almost desperate state. I'm currently sitting on about 5 million, so I need to be pretty conservative with money if I am going to plan to get a better glove any time soon.

I did manage to hit level 63 last night though, so I am officially done maxing out Power Guard and now get to focus on Booster for the next few levels. At level 1 now though, it is not usable. Next level I might give it a try and see how much it helps and then at 65, it will last 70 seconds, which is long enough I think to use on a regular basis.

I also started using power guard during training last night. I'm not entirely convinced that it helped because of the magic attacks of the hectors, but it made me feel a little better when I did bump into them - and it definitely helps against pangs. I really don't know why I didn't consider using it before. 40% damage reduction is really nice - no matter what way you look at it.

In other news, I got my mage to level 29 finally and actually spent a few minutes training with him last night at Boars, looking for weighted earrings. After a dozen or so - I managed to score a pair - so I just need a few more firewood and leaves to finish the quest for the leaf earrings (yes - useless for a mage pretty much - but whatever...). I still need to finish the pig headband quest, but I only need 4 more pig heads for that. My hope is to get him to the level to get the glove attack scrolls and hope to get a few 60% scrolls from it. Even the 10% would help at this point. He's pretty boring to play in my opinion though, so I don't know how much I'll be doing that.

Hectors, more Hectors and more Hectors

Well it has been an eventful weekend, and not just because I spent a good amount of time training. I managed to get a few trades done and now have 3 60% glove attack scrolls and the dark clench that I need to scroll. Unfortunately, I'm now "broke" with only ~8 mil to work with. I've got bids in for other scrolls to get, but until those trades come in, I don't necessarily expect them.

I've been tracking my exp rate for the past month or so. Not so much in terms of hours, but in terms of actual days - including days that I don't even play. This will help me estimate when I will be reaching the next milestone - in this case, 3rd job at level 70.

For the past 27 days, I have earned exp at a rate of 13.2% per day. Although I tend to have a greater rate on the weekend per day, this is tempered with short playing times during the week and that's about where it has stayed consistent. Right now, I'm 68% of the way through level 62, so I "should" be hitting level 70 in around 55 days - so about 2 months. Seems quite a distance, and with the steady increase in exp requirement to level, it might be considerably longer than that - but we'll just have to wait and see.

I got a random trade while I was in El Nath with someone wanting to sell an 84atk Red Katana. His original price was 2.5mil - which I pretty much laughed at. I countered with 500k, he responded with 1.5mil and quickly put up 1.2mil. I countered again with 750k and he came down to 900k - which I accepted. I was half-planning to not bother with it, since my 90atk, +6 str neocora will be fine for those levels, but if this one scrolls a little better - so much the better for me.

I've got 3 or 4 10% helmet scrolls already won - so I just need to find them. Once I do - I should be able to work on the crusader helms to improve what I've got. I probably should get another 10 or so, but if the first is lucky and scrolls well, I won't necessarily need them.

Partying at Hectors

Its official - I like to train at Hectors. Apart from a decent exp rate when solo and a decent money gaining rate when solo, the place is absolutely great when partied with a sin. It is officially my home until I decide to head elsewhere...

I trained for about 13% last night, after managing to sell off the Golden Crow I had for 500k. I looked for the other people to trade with but the only other one on logged off as soon as I found him. Most of that time training was with the sin and later with another warrior (a buddy from work). I wish I could've stayed longer, as the place is just that nice - but I made an agreement with my wife not to play as late as I have been.

I got yet another green napoleon last night and I think the only other drop was a set of blue jangoon shoes - so nothing terribly special. I'm not quite ready to go back to Orbis to trade in tails yet - but I should be after another 10-15% I think. Once there, I'm planning on NPCing a bunch of the stuff I've been carrying around, just to lighten the load and improve the way my money looks.

I've pretty much decided that getting a Str Cape pre-scrolled is just not worth it. 14-20 mil to get a +6 net bonus to strength works out to about 20-30 damage, 50-75 with power strike. Compared to a better attack glove, where a net +5 atk works out to be ~100 damage, 250 with powerstrike - and it just is the primary focus for now. I'll probably just hope to find the scrolls and work on one as I go. Maybe it'll be more important to me later when I've started getting combo boosted up.

Level 62 and expected time to reach Level 70

Well, level 70 and the third job is right on the cusp - just 8 levels to go.

That said, I managed to make level 62 last night, made a net profit of about 1 million from the sale of 2 scrolls and a few NPC items and started up on level 62. I spent the last 10% of level 61 at Zombies with the sin I party with. I was amazed at how quickly I lose money there and for that - I probably won't be heading back very soon. I'm set to fight there from 70 through 80 I believe, so I might as well spend my time at hectors for now. Heck - I lose less money fighting big yetis...

As I said, I managed to sell off a couple of scrolls and the two put me up 900k. During the night, I also got a crappy Green Seraphis, which will have to be NPCed, and a crappy Serpent's Tongue (71 atk) while likely will also need to be NPCed. Thankfully, I still have about 20 million in backlog items to sell, so I am not running low on money by any means...

I've been a little disappointed that I haven't been able to find any more reasonably priced glove attack scrolls. As such, I might have to make a more earnest effort to find a scrolled clench/husk or perhaps up the amount I'm willing to pay for one. It seems on basil that the prices are approaching 5 million now - and that's just way too much. If I'm going to scroll my own though, I still need at least 4 more scrolls of either the 60% or 10% variety (if the latter - more than 4 scrolls will be needed most likely...).

I still haven't done anything about scrolling a better helm - though I have been bidding on helmet scrolls when I see them. Until then though, I've got those three bronze crusaders just waiting. Time I guess will get me there. Too bad none of the higher level warrior helms have a nice mdef to use. If I can manage to get a silver crusader up to +3 10% - that should more than cover my needs for quite a while though - so that's what I'm hoping to get.

Short night

Didn't get a lot done last night, but I still enjoyed some fast drops... I was up to 7 green napoleons before I sold 4 of them to a buddy of mine for the NPC price. When I was training, I spent most of it training with the sin I seem to always party with and for some of the night with one of the guild clerics. The cleric wasn't a great addition in terms of exp - but not having to use unagi for some of the time was nice.

I also traded with the sin for his red magic cape for my white one. I figured I might as well use it when training with him - since my icarus doesn't have a huge stat boost, and the extra wdef and mdef is nice to have.

I'm pretty close to leveling at this point, and I hope to finish off level 61 tonight if I can. I'm well over 20 million in worth of items as well - so if I can ever manage to sell some items - I should be well enough off to either get a good attack glove or scroll one myself. I've got a few bids in on scrolls and such - so it is just a matter of finding the sellers and getting the scrolls. Since scroll prices have been heading on upwards - it is even more imperative to get them now, even if I don't end up using them until level 70.

Oh and last night I exchanged hector tails and received an ancient scroll - which I could use for the Hero's gladius quest if I choose to finish it. I don't have any of the other required materials though - so I might just sell the scroll or see if I need it for my wizard.

Werewolves, Kumbi and Other Fun stuff

Well a very productive weekend and it say plenty of experience at things that were not so productive.

On Friday night, I enjoyed most of my evening at Hectors in Cold Field I. I was just about to head to Zombies when a player on my buddy list reminded me that on Friday and Saturday nights it tends to be crowded, so I just stayed where I was. Zombies aren't going anywhere. I made somewhere around 30% on Friday alone - despite showing my brother-in-law how to kill a werewolf and dying in the process...

Saturday morning - I joined some of the Aussie members of my guild at Wolf Territory I (more punishment?). There were four of us and while high-paced and fun - it is still very stressful for me to be there... I managed to gain 1.3% while there, but in the process used 73 unagi... so I was losing money at a decent clip...

Saturday night was more hectors at Cold Field I. This screen is quickly becoming a favorite of mine at my current level and the only detraction is the number of people passing through. Usually though, I don't have to compete for the screen, which is nice. Of course, the drops that I've been getting are probably some of the reason why I like it so far. But more on that in a minute.

Sunday morning, I again joined some of the Aussie members of my guild - this time to work at Garden of Yellow II (mixed jr and big Lioners). With the three of us there - we absolutely crushed the opponents, but it really wasn't a good exp rate for me, so after gathering 100 horns and 100 tails, I set back to Orbis and eventually back down to Hectors. When I played for a short while that night, I stayed at Hectors for the duration, partying for a brief few minutes with the sin that I party with on occasion.

So I mentioned I had a decent weekend for drops. This is all since my last update - so a total of ~60% of progress:

3 sets of Kumbis, 60% Overall for Dex (finished Scadur's New Fur Coat), 60% Cape for Dex, 10% Overall for Dex (trade in of Hector tails), Gold Crow (80 atk - 4 above avg), The Blessing (82 atk - avg) and 2 Red Cleaves (1 is avg, not sure about the other). In addition - I've also received 3 Green Napoleons and a Blue Counter (this last from another opponent).

The NPC value of the equipment I have listed to sell is ~3.1 million, while with the prices I've listed it puts it up to 20.7 million. The new scrolls have a lot to do with the difference too, so I'm doing fairly well. My pure money is somewhere around 8 mil on my main character, 500k in storage, 6.8 mil on my mule and another 1 mil on my mage. I am definitely going to need to step up my selling efforts if I am going to keep ahead of the rate I'm gaining items, but there's only so much I can do...

Nothing much to see here

Didn't really play much yesterday. I was still at Wolf Territory V, so I finished my 200 pang tails and was AFK for a little while. By the time I came back, the sin I tend to party with was already at Zombies, so I joined him there for a little while. He and I were both running low on potions, so we went back to El Nath. Since I was done with my quest, I went and grabbed the sapphire ores I would need and then checked the status of the quest - it still was listed as unfinished.

Yeah - then I found out that I needed 300 hector and pang tails. Good going Dave...

By that point though, Lindsay wanted me to get off the computer - so after everything, I'm at around 16-17%.

In other news, yesterday was the 2-year anniversary of Sleepywood.Net and there's special events going on. Unfortunately, however, it appears someone forgot to renew the domain name - because today the site is not up anymore. I'll have to check around and see what's being done about it - but I assume it will be back up in a few days at worst.

Okay level 61

Spent a lot of time AFK while online last night, so I added probably 3-4 hours to my time, but only actually did anything for about 1 hour of that or so. I decided I would work on Scadur's new coat - which requires 200 pang and hector tails, 100 yeti horns and 60 sapphire ores. I managed to polish off the hector tails and yeti horns, and I finished my night working on the pang tails at Wolf Territory V. When I'm done, I'm planning on giving some of my time to zombies before heading back to El Nath.

I decided to have Tim buy the red snowshoes that I had offered for on Basil. In retrospect after the auction, the snowshoes were adding accuracy I wasn't going to need, so I'm back to wanting a decent set of speed snowshoes. I might still scroll my camel boots for accuracy, or I might get them for speed - I'm still not sure. I might just leave them unscrolled too.

I was a little upset about two scrolls that I had posted to buy were sold to others. One was a 10% scroll off of Basil and although the auction only ended 1 day ago, the seller claimed he had been looking for me since Saturday and that I hadn't been online. So what if I hadn't even BID on the item until Tuesday or so. Oh well. The other was a 60% scroll and the seller just hadn't updated his selling thread on Sleepywood.

Wolf Territory V lists Lycan as a possible spawn. I'm hoping its pretty rare, because there's no way I would survive one of those beasts...

Not much to say other than that. I'm less than 10% into level 61 and Pangs aren't too bad - Hectors are pretty good though. I am tempted to spend some serious time at Cold Path I or whatever its called.

I did an inventory last night and found that if I NPCed everything I have up for sale on Sleepywood, I would gain 2.5 million mesos for it; at the price listed, I've got a 10 million meso inventory. Unfortunately, I think I have to bite the bullet here - most of it just won't sell.

I'm still tentatively planning on making a new helm for myself and trying to get 2-3 10% working on one of the three crusaders that I've got after upgrading them to Silver. That would give me a defense boost, a +1 str boost and a +1-2 accuracy boost. Even if I only got 1 10% to work on one of them - it would be equivalent to my current helm, but with the additional +1 str.

I'm also fleshing out my training guide, adding in some short comments about levels 30-39 and 40-49. I'll be more in depth with the ones for 60-69, but those are also still in development. Hopefully more to come on that front.

Level 61? No - Server Check!

Well there's not much I can do when I am 98% to level 61 and a server check is looming. I managed to run through the last sections of the Book of Ancient - but it wasn't quite enough to get me to advance. No big deal - but it would have been a nice finish.

I started the night at Mushmom, finding an empty channel on my 2nd try. Unfortunately, 2 minutes before she appeared, a party of 3 (a fizard and 2 sins) comes in and I can't persuade them to leave. I still manage to deal enough damage to earn 350xp or so - but nothing special. I had tentative plans to camp there for the night, but I decided it was too busy for that. So I went back to Orbis.

Once in Orbis, I completed a few sales and was contemplating whether to head back to Lusters or try my hand at Zombies when a guild member came up to party with me - a level 54 sin with whom I have partied a number of times. We set off for Lusters straight away and partied straight for about 1 1/2 hours, earning me somewhere in the vicinity of 15-17% or so. He didn't get any drops, while I got 3 for myself, so I gave him the dark pilfer that I got before he called it a night. I got a 3rd bronze crusader and a 6th orihalcon hildon boot. Yippee...

The server check was in another 1/2 hour, so I decided I probably had enough time to get to El Nath, talk to Alcaster and maybe train a little bit. Once I got down there, I decided to bite the bullet and try werewolves for the 3 toenails I needed. Surprisingly enough - I did fairly well, but it did lay a heavy toll (82 unagi and 10 mana elixirs to take out a total of 5 werewolves and the pangs/hectors that were with them). Werewolves are still exceptionally tough for me so I probably won't be trying that again, solo at least, for a while.

This necessitated returning to Cloud Park VI to talk with Corporal Easy, then back to El Nath to talk with Alcaster, then to Floor 8 of Orbis tower and finally to Alcaster to finish things off. By the time I was returning to Alcaster, I was down to less than 5 minutes left, so I talked with him and logged off. 98.xx% - really darn close, but just not there.

The travels through the tower did take a toll on my Orbis scrolls, so I'll need to take some time to get some more the next time I'm in Orbis. Since I'm down in El Nath anyway though, I might just head on over to Zombies and try my hand at them. If I can party with that sin again, that would be even better I would think.

In buying and selling news, I've started picking up Glove Attack scrolls to try to scroll my own glove. The ones I've picked up so far were pretty cheap, so if I decide later that I need the money I should have little problem breaking even or coming out a little ahead when taxes are figured in. I'm still on the slight side of funds though - with only ~15-17 mil in hard cash and too many items to sell. I'm sure I'll be NPCing the extra Orihalcon boots if a buyer doesn't turn up soon though.

Not much to report

Busy weekend overall coupled with a cold to just bug the heck out of me and splintered with my kids not behaving and staying awake until all hours of the night... yeah - I didn't get much done this weekend either in game or in real life.

I've finished a couple of key quests that I was working on, and in working on another I managed to get myself killed - which set me back quite a bit. I did get a few more trades done - not the least of which is my boots which are really cool...

Other than that - not much to report:

Taurospears still suck

Red Drakes are still a little too powerful to take down.

Mushmom is rediculously easy now.

Oh - and I spent 5 minutes working on my wizard too and still haven't managed to get him to level yet... (I think he's at 95% or so now).

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck...

If the woodchuck had a 90atk, +6 str Neocora? Quite a bit I would imagine... Last night I lucked out in being able to trade for the neocora and what a difference it makes. Instead of rarely 2-hitting Lusters and never 1-hitting Lunars (though coming close), I now almost always 2-hit the Lusters and 1-hit the Lunars about 20-40% of the time. That single purchase has made that screen quite profitable - I used ~100 unagi and ~100 mana elixirs to gain 35% or so last night and the net gain was ~400k I think. To make things even better, I'm even training at a faster rate with it than last level.

I still haven't gotten the 20 wisdom ores that I need - and I am almost to the point of wanting to just purchase the last 7, but not quite. Once I get them, I'll go and finish that leg of the level 55 cape quest and do John's Level 60 Jump Quest for my new earrings.

I partied for a little while with a buddy from work while at CPVI. He has a Level 45 Pure Str Warrior and although he doesn't 100% hit the Lusters, he did fine at it. The damage was a little high for his tastes though, so he moved on after a gaining 100 pieces.

Myself, I traded in a total of 1500 luster and ~600 lunar pieces and didn't get any scrolls out of it. If I get another cape int scroll, that would be utter beauty, but getting a shield scroll would be a nice change too...

I finished the night about halfway through my current level and I've started putting some items onto my wizard who is now my "alternative" mule. I have no desire to level him for any length of time, so its not a big deal if he holds onto some things in any case.

Waiting...

Okay - I won the auction for the sword... now I just need to find the player and trade with him. So far - I have sent a PM through Basil and had various people search online for him at different times, hoping to track him down. So far - he's not been found.

Training with my current sword is just as fast as with my previous one - mostly because my damage difference didn't really change between them. Hence why I want my new sword. That being said, I still haven't had much time to train in the last couple of days with all that's been going on.

I did manage to get a few trades done last night and suddenly my auctions on Basil are finally getting some bids - most notably my Cape for Int scroll that I got through the exchange quest. I still need to step up my efforts to sell things, but at least I'm bringing in more money than I'm putting out at this point. Of course, that all changes when I trade for the sword... where is that guy anyway?

For the 5-7% training I did do last night, I found a white piette top and blue piette pants - both NPCable. Other than that - it was just lusters, lunars and the occasional fierry. I'm hoping to get my last few Wis ores so I can go to Victoria to do that quest and to do John's final jump quest for my new earrings.

Selling and Buying Galore

While waiting for the neocora auction to end, I've been doing a lot of trades - both for buying and selling. I haven't, notably, been doing much training - having earned a whopping 10% over the last 2 nights. Tonight won't likely be much progress either since Sammy has her Kareoke contest tonight and Lindsay and I are meeting there to give her support.

I did finish a few trades, but I'm still overful, so I've started a "Maple Inventory" that I intend on posting to Sleepywood and see if I can't sell some of it off. There's a few that will need to be NPCed - for sure - but hopefully I'll get a few of them sold.

I'm considering making my 2 Bronze Crusader helms into Silver ones and trying to scroll them better than my current Mithril one. My current one is only +1 with a 10% and had above average stats - but it would still be better to have a silver one - and with a total of 14 slots - that shouldn't be a problem. Plus - it gets me to use some of the ores that are filling up my inventory.

It would necessitate getting a bunch of helm scrolls though - so I'll have to pick those up before I start if I decide to go that route.

I was also told that I was a hacker last night. The overwhelming proof was stunning. You see - I was sitting in a Relaxer at the top of Cloud Park VI and I was AFK.

That's it. I must be a hacker right? Because only hackers sit AFK in a relaxer chair in CPVI. Yeah... okay buddy.

Anyway I don't think I was reported for it - but its just so stupid I don't know how to take it. Oh well, moving on in any case.

Not much to update

I spent only about a 1/2 hour online last night and earned all of 1% since I spent most of that time looking for trades. At the end of it - I walked over to Cloud Park VI so I could get back into training. I'm kind of waiting for the neocora auction to finish before I get back into training and I'm hoping I can get a bunch of trades done because my mule is getting over-full. His Equipment inventory is completely full as is his etc inventory.

I'm now sitting on 5 sets of orihalcon hildon boots that need to be sold (though I'm using one of them until I get the blood camels that I won. Beyond this - I've got another 10 auctions up on Basil and I'll probably add more tonight. There's still probably 10 trades that are ready to complete once I can find the person involved.

In other areas, I've found a bunch of my friends from high school on my-space. Never really thought to look there before, but it was good to see they are doing well. My wife did the same so she's planning on creating an account to get back in touch with them. It did inspire me to try to find some of my friends from college - most specifically Stacie and Cosmo since they were two of the closest friends I had. I still talk with Natasha on occasion, but I also know that she doesn't have a my-space account.

Level 60 and Scrolling Fun

Okay - so I finally made level 60 last night, which of course means working on some scrolling.

First up to bat: Red Orientican Top - starting stats: 67wdef, +4 str, +2 dex. 4 10% scrolls later - it has 3 slots left and the same stats...

Next: Red Orientican Pants - 54wdef, +1 acc, +2 str. 6 10% and 1 60% scrolls later - 0 slots left, 61 wdef, 4 mdef, +1 acc, +2 str, +10hp - 1 10% and 1 60% worked.

Next: Neocora - 79 watk. 3 10% scrolls later - it has 4 slots left and the same stats

Next: Another Neocora - 79 watk. 1 10% scroll and 2 60% scrolls later - same story.

Not very pretty at all.

I did however find a neocora in the market place that I'm in discussions to buy. If I get it - that will be a 90watk - I don't remember the strength bonus.

I've also still got 5 slots left on my shield which already has 2 60%s on it (bought it that way).

Here's my current screenshot of my character. If I do get any better scrolls or items, I'll be sure to include them as well later:

The Push for Money

The past few nights, I've spent most of my time at Cloud Park VI - but I've been fairly focused on getting some trades done - so I've only actually trained for about 1 hour in the last two nights.

I missed, yet again, a nice attack dark clench on Basil Market - so I'm pushing myself to get the money to be able to purchase the things that are on the top of my list. This includes training better, selling more items and watching the markets like a hawk.

In terms of money, I've got about 20 million at my disposal with a 60% attack glove scroll on hand that could easily be sold for 4 million on its own. I'm tempted to even sell my Bone Helm as I only use it when moving from location to location and never during training.

Other than that - I've added some more sections to the training reflection I posted about the other day. Hopefully, I'll get a decent number of trades done tonight so that I can boost my money a little more and get in a good hour or two of training as well. I'm about half-way through the current level - so pushing to get to level 60 is my main priority.

More Progress and a quick reflection on the level 5x

I played for a little over 2 hours last night and managed to accumulate ~25% give or take (I don't really remember...). In that time, I spent all of it at Lusters and Lunars in Cloud Park VI and solo - since virtually no one from my guild or buddy list was online.

Again, I received a few more decent drops (another bronze crusader helm, 2 brown sonatas and a dark pilfer) and 1 or 2 dark crystal ores, as well as a net profit of a few hundred thousand. I think my total money is hovering around 16 million now and with a bunch of auctions finishing up - that should be bumped up pretty well.

Over on Sleepywood - I did a detailed reflection on some of the places I trained at. I expect to receive some flack for it - but if I get a worthwhile comment or two - that would be great. Especially since I'll probably be sticking with Cloud Park VI a little while longer...

http://www.sleepywood.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1069142

Of course, the reason I went to Cloud Park VI was to collect the needed Power and Wisdom ores for the Four Wisemen quest. I've now got enough power ores - but I'm still in need of 9 (I think) wisdom ores. I get 0-2 per hour - so I'll probably be into level 60 before I'm done. No rush though.

After I'm done collecting, I'll try to spend some quality time in Victoria. Perhaps I'll finish the spell that seals up a critical danger quest or something like that. I'm expecting a fairly big power and defence jump at level 60 - so maybe fighting macis and cargos won't be too bad then.

That's pretty much it for now. Maple Global's web site is down, so I can't provide a new screenshot of my overall ranking (which I've pretty much decided I will include when I can...)

Level 59 Already?

Well, I thought it took longer - but I did in fact level in about 5 days. Considering I died twice at Tauromacis - and I did a lot of wandering - that's not too bad.

I've spent a fair amount more time at Lusters the past few days and partying with an assassin in my guild. He's only level 53, but he's making solid progress and the map is good for us. Haste makes a huge difference in training for me and I'm sure the rage helps him quite a bit as well. Assuming we continue to keep the same schedule - we will probably work out a solid party for a while.

Last night I only gained about 8% or so - spending most of the 2 hours I was online away from the computer and the rest doing a trade or two. Basil has been going really well lately, and I hope it continues to go well - since it is my best route of earning money. Considering the rate I've been getting drops at Lusters - I would say that it is a much better overall place to train and make money in your mid to late 50s. While you can't beat the 60% glove attack scroll from the jetis - Lusters have a lot more frequent drops and the drops they have tend to sell for reasonable amounts.

Level 60 is just around the corner. In preparation, I still need to get a few scrolls - mostly to scroll my neocoras, but I also need some top and bottom defense scrolls to finish those off.

Adding Image of Current Ranking

Just trying to add in the picture I've got of my character. It seems to have worked - but I might toy around with it some more.

Drops? What are those?

For all those who knew me before I took my break - you know that people tend to call me lucky in terms of the number and type of drops I get. The day before yesterday - I got 3 drops over the course of collecting 100 lioner tails. Yesterday, I collect a bronze crusader helm, another blue goni shoe and an Oaker Shouldermail top over the course of 5.5% at Lusters in Cloud Park VI. The helm and the top were both above average in defense. The Blue Goni was below average in defense so I just NPCed it. My other set of Blue Gonis are up for sale on Basil along with 5 or 6 other things.

In other words - last night was pretty good for drops - I even got a second dark crystal ore, a few golds, a couple of power crystals and a wisdom ore. I'm staying at Lusters at the moment since I need the wisdom and power ores for the level 55 cape quest - and they seem to be doing fairly well for me for experience - although it still doesn't really show.

I earned about 25% over the course of 3 hours last night. If that was all straight training, that would be pretty sub-par - but I did a fair amount of moving stuff to my mule, trading with people for stuff that I sold through Basil and so it cut into my training a fair amount. Sitting a little better than half-way through the current level - I might be able to finish off level 58 this weekend.

After all of that, I spent some quality time with my wizard and finished off Luke's quest and got an Emerald for my time. I just needed the salad and stirge wings - so I was pretty much done anyway. I then spent a little bit of time at evil eyes and later on Green mushrooms at HHG. I'm at about 88% to level 29 - so he's close to making 2nd job - which would be nice.

On Basil, I've been picking up some top and bottomwear scrolls for cheap as I find them. Most of them are 10% - but I'm not particularly picky about how well the tops and bottoms are scrolled anyway. I do want to pick up a few more shield scrolls - but since those are 10 times more expensive, they actually require a little bit of planning. I also put up a bunch of auctions last night - since I noticed my equipment was getting a little over-full. I may even need to see about selling off a bunch of ores - since I seem to be gaining them faster than using them... Maybe I'll make a set of level 60 shoes and gloves - or maybe even lower ones and try to sell them for a profit... I'll have to look into that...

1 handed sword warrior guide

A "well-known" 1-handed sword fighter has posted a guide on why to go 1-handed that is reasonably well written. Registration at Sleepywood.net is required to view it:

http://www.sleepywood.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1062924

I still think it is possible and reasonable to completely tank-out a warrior while still maintaining a high degree of damage. As I'm looking ahead to higher avoid monsters though, I'm definitely going to need to come up with accuracy I don't currently have. If this means dumping more into Dex than I have currently remains to be seen.

It does enlighten me a little that perhaps I should focus on getting a decent set of snowshoes/warrior boots with dex/accuracy built in. Right now, with a sniper pill, I'm at 106 accuracy. The next reasonable level to get to is 139. 33 points from a helm, cape and boots is probably a little too much to manage, but I definitely want a full attack glove - so that's pretty much my only option. The only other place would be an overall - but that means taking a fair amount out of my defence.

I'll have to give it some more look - and also take into account that the higher level gloves and boots add accuracy as well.

Lioners, Lusters and Little Balls of Fur

I spent my night in 3 different places last night. I started off getting my last 30 or so hector tails and another 1-200 jeti skins. At that point, I was itching to head back to Orbis to do Lusters for a while - so I did.

In Orbis, I killed a single star pixie and it dropped a wisdom ore. Since I'm in need of around 15 or so - that was a nice surprise. At that point, I diverted course and decided to give big kitties a try once again. I fought with them to get a total of 100 horns and 100 tails and decided that they were still not very effective for me. Of course, in that time, I did get 2 red starlights from the jr. lioners - so it wasn't a complete loss.

I finished off my night by hitting Cloud Park VI again. That screen is probably one of my more liked screens - so I will probably frequent there quite often until I'm ready to take up residence at zombies. I didn't play long there, but I did get an average pair of blue goni shoes.

I got a few trades done last night. The person who had won a mokbi auction actually bought my second set of mokbis and a set of kumbis - so I'm down to just one set of kumbis now. I've also started collecting reasonably priced top/bottom scrolls for level 60. I'll also need to pick up a few shield scrolls, but since those are so expensive, it will be a slow trickle to get them all.

I made decent leveling progress, earning about 20% or so. Considering that was over the course of 2 1/2 hours isn't very good - but I really spent a lot of time trying to get some trades done - so I probably trained for a total of less than 2 hours. I'm sitting at about 30% right now - so there's still quite a few more sessions before I make it to level 59 - let alone 60. I'll keep on plugging though.

Wednesday, September 20, 2006

Okay - really Level 58

Well, its been a few days - a bit more than a week I think since I last advanced. Last night, I finished off the remaining 4% to level 58 and gained even another 9% beyond that. Not a lot of progress - but some nonetheless. I did do the Orbis tower scroll quest again - so that slowed things down, and then I also got my shield - so I spent some time for that.

I don't think I got any drops of note last night, though I did do some tradeins before heading down to El Nath. Nothing special there either. I spent a little time at Jetis, Hectors and Yetis - and I finally finished my first 100 horns from yetis. I'll have to go back up to Orbis fairly soon since my ETC is already almost full - but that's the way it goes I guess. I'll probably get 2 full sets of hector tails first though.

I'm just about set for level 60. I'm still looking for a decent pair of snowshoes and a decent attack glove - but otherwise - I'm pretty much good to go.

My wizard is still at level 28, though I think he's about at half-way. He's taken a little longer this level because I was collecting necki skins, but that's all done now. With my recent push to try to get to level 60- he might have to be put on the backburner for a little while.

I still haven't decided if I'm going to sell the two sets of Kumbis I've got right now. If I do decide in the future to make a sin - they would be nice to have. The fact is though - that I'd either have to get rid of my mule, my wizard or make a new account - so I just don't think its likely. The extra ~400k I'd be able to get from them isn't enough to drive me to get it done right now though.

I think I pretty much need to leave the Disposed Garden forever now. While it still tantalizes me with possible great rewards, I think the exp rate is just too slow now. With Cloud Park VI - I think I've found a suitable replacement for training while I'm up in Orbis.

I might return to Victoria soon to work on killing Mushmom some more - perhaps camping there for a few training sessions to see if I can get anything good or worthwhile. If not there, I might have to return to the sanctuary areas of the dungeon and finish the quest to get the spirits. This is all leadup of course to staying at Zombies for a very long time starting around level 60...

That's pretty much all for now.

Level 58

Yeah - not quite...

I started the night off at 88% and finished at 96%... but I'm ALMOST there...

I took the wife out to dinner last night, so we were out for a while and then watched The Weatherman (with Nicholas Cage). I was a little surprised by the movie, and while it had some funny moments, it really was pretty forgettable. I did my best to follow it - but in the end I think it just wasn't what I was looking for.

In terms of the game, I got yet another set of Mokbis and a couple more power crystals but nothing more. I spent the entire time that I was on at Lusters/Lunars. I find that I like the map a lot more than jetis - mostly because I don't get annoying people just passing through.

The first night I was there, there was a vaccer on one channel - so I reported him and moved on. Every once in a while some one else will come on to the map, but they usually leave once they see that someone else is already there.

The map itself is decent training - though I bet Jetis are still better for me. The upside to it is that I think I'm generating more cash because of the lesser amount of damage I take. Bumping a jeti costs me 80-90hp; bumping a lunar is 60-65 and bumping a luster is ~110-120. However, the way the map is set up enables me to avoid being bumped except on the bottom row - and there things are set up really well for slash blasts. I've probably earned 20% there so far and only used ~10 unagi, 80 white, 25 mana elixirs, 25 blue and 15 lemons.

I've gotten a few decent drops - the mokbis I mentioned above plus a pair of the strength boots for thieves (below avg) and maybe 1 or 2 other things. Mostly NPC stuff - but it still helps my profit.

I'm still having trouble finding the seller of the shield I'm trying to get. I don't need it until level 60 - but it would be nice to have now rather than later.

Tonight, I should have no trouble finishing off level 57. Once done, I'll probably stay at lusters/lunars for a while longer - as I still need a few more power and wisdom ores. I might go over to big kitties and try them for a short while as well. Of course, if I return to El Nath, I'll be forced to do more jetis and I might even finish off my first 100 yeti horns (up to 85 now I think). Big yetis are good for a change - but they definitely aren't good training. I'll probably give zombies another try when I hit 60. I think right now I want something a little closer to a resting point (even though I do have Dead Mine scrolls if I ever wanted to make it quickly out there...).

Well that's about it for now.

Good Weekend, Bad Weekend

Well, it was a good weekend for a number of reasons - not the least of which was my brother's wedding. My son was the ring-bearer and he did his job excellently - though he did have us worried.

Other than that - on Sunday we went with a bunch of my family into Boston for a Duck Tour. I had never been on one and the kids were so excited - they even got to drive for part of the boating portion. For anyone who comes to Boston (or lives here to begin with) - take the time to go on one. It really is worth it.

For Maple Story - I've been playing my warrior mostly - and he managed to get himself a second Nependeath's honey - so his money just about doubled (or it will once I get to sell it). Unfortunately, late on Sunday, I erased 9% of his experience gains by dying. It happens - but I do want to get to level 60.

In terms of work - I'm at an all time low. With Lindsay being so injured and things so tough with the kids, it is making me wonder just how much longer I can deal with a job I don't like - even if I can't make my bills now and I won't likely be able to find a job to pay as well to start. If Lindsay were working - things would be much different I think - but that is probably still 3-4+ weeks away. Its been a very rough month. In fact, Wednesday marks a full month since the accident happened.

Sorry if my tone is a little low today. I'm working through it - but I do wish that things would start to get better...

A Short Night

Well, my brother's wedding rehearsal was last night and afterwards, we all went to dinner - so I didn't get a lot of time to play. We got home around 11:30pm, and after getting the kids to bed and making sure Lindsay was comfortable, I finally sat down around 12:30am, but then I was off the computer by 1am.

In that short stint, I did manage to gain ~6% fighting jetis and a few hectors. I traded the gold brist - though the person who won the auction didn't have the cash. He offered me two sets of Kumbis instead. I countered with the 2 sets and 40k and that seemed acceptable. Since the Kumbis seem to be going for ~180k on Basil - I am a little behind the 420k that he won the auction for, but you never know how much someone will offer.

At least I don't have to hold onto the brist longer.

Since I went to bed so early, I missed out on a neocora that I was winning at. Also a few of my other auctions ended without bids - so I'll probably just NPC them. The serpent coil I found the other night is started at 500k - which is nice. I'm really struggling to get my money up into the realms of getting a good warrior attack glove, but it will come with time I suppose.

Beyond that - I turned in another 1000 jeti skins and a set of hector tails, but didn't get anything too special from them. I'll stay up in Orbis for a few hours of training at the Disposed Garden and Cloud Park VI for just a change in pace. I might even go fight the big kitties - since I haven't tried them in a few levels.

I have to say that I'm pleased with already having my level 60 armor and sword. If I win the shield I will be well on my way to being fully prepared. Beyond that - I'm keeping my current helm. I don't have the level 60 earrings yet - but I believe there's a jump quest for them and then there's my boots - but I just need better snowshoes at the moment. There are a few on auction that seem viable candidates.

Current State of the Blog

Although this blog will serve more purpose than just my runnings through the game of Maple Story, it is currently the main focus of it.

Since the last post in my previous blog - I have attained level 57 and have most of my equipment for level 60 (red orientican top and bottom - both above avg, neocora (79atk)). I am bidding on a lvl 60 silver shield and have plans to craft a dark clench for the purposes of scrolling into an attack glove of +5 or better if possible.

Most of the people who were once on my buddy list have quit and I have become a member of the NightBreed guild. Although I still don't chat much - it is nice to have something to bounce ideas off of.

Currently, I'm training heavily on jetis. When I go for a change of pace, I move on to hectors or even full size yetis - but only for short bursts. The full size ones aren't too bad - but certainly are not trainable. They are just a distraction to keep things interesting.

I did try zombies for a short period and found that they are still too tough for me at the moment.

In terms of money and equipment, I'm sitting on about 8 mil and have another 1-2 mil worth of sellable/NPCable stuff.

I have also been playing with my magician who is near the 2nd job at level 28. Since I've renewed my interest in playing my warrior he's been on the sideline. On his own (as in - with very little funding from my warrior), he has earned a small nest egg of 800k. He did get a free panlid from my warrior - other than that though - all of the money and equipment is his.

My current goal is to get to level 60 - which still seems so far away. I have been earning a decent rate at jetis, but I'm going to look for a change soon - if only to return to jetis later. Camping at Another's House might be a solid option.

Well, I sold the 4 int Arten for 1.2 mil, still have the other one, I guess I'll sell it when the time is right. This brought my money count back up to the million =D Then I spent 350k on a soul singer, for novelty value. I know, I'm a terrible spender ;_; 29 ACC, 61 Watk.

Should I try a 10% on it?

(I have 4 10% and 5 60%s on me atm)

Oh, and I forgot:
I did a bit of testing with training. With icarus 2 (1.25 mil ;_ and a speed pill, here's some test results:

Hidden Trojan factory
0 minutes: 55.83%
10 minutes: 59.35
----------
3.52%
Apparatus room Tobo
0 min: 61.08
10 min: 63.99
-----------2.91%

Now, if I was smart, I'd have tracked pot usage too. But I'm not, so I'll have to do that I guess... Well, eventually.

Keeping in mind Tobo does drop things too, what do you advise, Dave? Am I almost strong enough for block golems?

Nice job on the dark arten (btw - remind me to tell you about that the next time I'm online...). I kind of wish I had tried harder to get a good price on mine - despite it being below average...

Nice on the info about rates in those two places. I suspect you'd find floor 8 to be similar to a combination of Tobos and Master Robos - so try Process 1 Zone 1 (all the way to the left) and see how it is for you. If it works out reasonably - head down and see for yourself. I never did block golems for any length of time (except for the quests), so I don't have much info on them myself.

I would still take tobos over the trojans - but that's just because I like money... and not getting any drops is far worse than the difference between 3.52%/10min vs 2.91%/10min (which, over an hour is 3.66% difference - not that big of a deal). I spent most of my 40s between tobos and the disposed garden - so if you want to try elsewhere - I will gladly take notes about it.

Also, on the matter of moving on to block golems - I treat it much like Drake's Meal Table. Even though it might be a reasonable place to train - its accessibility is very limited. Sure - if you have tower scrolls - getting there and back is no problem. However, as a fighter, getting those scrolls is very much an annoyance. You can better spend your time fighting good trainable creatures instead of getting the scrolls.

That being said - if you don't care about money - buying the Eos Tower scrolls is an option that's there too. I just am too cheap for that when I consider Tobos a very good and solid training spot. And yes - I'm stuck in my ways...

I've got to go over to Ludi soon - so I'm going to recheck tobos and master robos at my current level while I'm there (I need sniper pills for those darned transformed yetis...). After that, I'm contemplating heading back to vic and camping out at Mushmom for a little while, just for a change in pace from Jetis.

Yes, you can make it once every 24 hours.

@ Telin:Well the thing about Eos tower, is that you camp there, you dont go up or down unless you actually need to, and when you're level is near the 50 's is better to change to hidden tower, more king block golems and rombot spawns make it a better training spot for those last levels.
Im currently in Jr Yetis, just cuz i need to adapt my strategy to that map (rounding up and slash blast them to oblivion.)

Well, my MS luck hasn't ended yet...

I came home from class early today, and with a midterm in... 7 hours, I decided to relax. I ventured down Eos using scrolls and fought some block golems, not bad, they're easy but deal more dmg than master Robos...

I ventured a bit further to level 8, fought King ones, and they weren't bad. So I said, "Screw this" and went to fight Rombot.

How disappointing. The first rombot I fought surprised me, I just mashed pots and PS till it died. Then I channel surfed and fought a few more, got the hang on it, and then...

MITHRIL CRUSADER HELM Wdef 53 (1 above), M def 22 (avg), STR +1 (avg)

Yay. I'm set for Lv 50 at this rate XD

Just a quick note for 2 things:
1. I got my home internet back on Saturday during the day. I didn't play too much yesterday - but a few people were happy to see me back online.

2. Today, I've got a pretty big free poker tournament. There's going to be ~8k players for it - but the top 9 places get seats to the World Series of Poker and then 10th - 780th or so pays from $1100 down to $40.

It should be a lot of fun. If I finish early enough, I'll come online later today. The tournament starts at 1 and I expect the final table will be somewhere in the order of 12-13 hours later.
Anyway - wish me luck.

A busy weekend for sure - and it all started with getting my internet connection back on Saturday.

On Saturday I actually didn't play too much, having plenty to do about my house and stuff like that. Plus, my brother-in-law was over - and I tend to let him play since his access at home is pretty limited.

I probably gained in the order of 10% on Saturday, finishing around 60% I think. I spent some time at Macis and Cold Eyes as well as drakes and cargos - just for a nice change. Can't say I really like those areas - given how far they are and how costly they are - but that's the way it is sometimes.

On Sunday, I returned to Orbis and worked on the Disposed Garden while dealing with my son - who was having a very rough time. He didn't end up falling asleep until almost midnight - and it looks like this might happen on occasion. Not sure what we'll do about it - but I'm sure something will come up.

Anyway, I didn't get a lot of training in on Sunday - but the gleaming moment was getting nependeath honey finally! I finished off the night at around 75% and had returned to Vic to finish off the other requirements.

On Monday, I earned my bone helm finally and once again returned to Orbis. I spent a goodly amount of time in the garden again and even some time in the Garden of Red to finish off my first 100 tails. Cellions are pretty nasty for my current level though - so I'll be staying away for a little longer.

At the end of the night, I returned to jetis and earned upwards of 300 skins before calling it a night - around 4% short of hitting level 53.

After playing around with the bone helm some, I'm pretty much of the opinion that it'll only be used when I am travelling. The extra wdef and mdef of my crusader is important enough to me that it will continue to be my training helm. Considering how much money I'll need to continue with the attack gloves, I'll likely sell the bone helm in order to cover the costs.

On Monday night, a fizard came in at jetis and started training without so much as a word to me. He kill-stealed for about 1/2 an hour before he got the hint that I was going nowhere and eventually left. The funny thing is - he was able to deal more damage to them singly - but I tagged them all with slash blast before he'd kill them. And even though the drops were his - he left most of the money and all of the etc drops for me to snatch up later. So not only was he not getting the full exp he wanted, he also wasn't getting much for money...

I also got a random defame while I was AFK on Sunday night. If I was a spiteful man - I would've organized something to go teach the guy a lesson - but what would that accomplish? I would take some time away from enjoying the game in order to get some kid all up in arms for doing something which admittedly causes me no harm? Anyway - I hope the kid got something out of the random defame - because otherwise - it did nothing...

That's about it. I expect level 53 will come and go without much ado - though it does mark the beginning of Power Guard. After that - its more jetis...

Hey telin i was wanna ask u a question u see i have a warrior lvl 18 and was wondering if i should go one handed sword like u did i mean i have a Fizard to fund me if i wanted to go 2 handed but is 1 handed good or is the majority of people who go lol 1 handed right? at the moment im leaning towards using polearms

TelinArtho
Posted 5/30/2006 11:43:23 AM
In my opinion, 1 handed is equivalent to 2 handed - but the benefits are not as easily seen.

A one-handed wielder benefits by taking less damage, having a faster attack speed, but trades this off with a shorter range and less damage dealt.

A two-handed wielder benefits by dealing more damage and having a greater range, but trades this off with a slower attack speed and taking more damage.

Specifically, a one-handed wielder is "better" against things that both the 1 and 2-handed wielder can one-hit-kill and against things that take >5 hits (or so). The 2-handed wielder surpasses the 1-handed wielder when the 1-hander kills in 2-hits what the 2-hander can kill in 1 hit (and similarly for 3-, 4-, and 5- hits).

In other words - I feel it is mostly a matter of style. A two-handed wielder has "flashier" damage (a much greater maximum), but the 1-handed wielder can fight a lot longer for a smaller cost.

I've done a fair amount of analysis on this in my first log - you can check out the archives of it by following the link in my sig.

Well, Dave, you were right about Tobos. ~50% of Lv 43 was done there, and I've got 2 Dark Artens to show for it (one is 1 def above avg, the other is 1 int above)...

TelinArtho
Posted 5/31/2006 8:59:39 AM
I made some more progress last night, but not a lot of it - gaining the last 4% of level 52 and the first 10-15% of level 53 mostly on jetis and a little at hectors.

I don't think I got a single drop last night - which is fine I guess, but I have been spending more money. I bought a second 10% glove atk scroll, but it failed on the first Brist I made. That leaves it with 3 slots - so I'll probably try to cut my losses there for now and either work on a second one - or just wait until the level 60 glove.

I also picked up a 10% shoe speed scroll for my snowshoes - which failed - so nothing good there. I seem to be down to around 2.5 mil at this point - but that was mostly because of buying the 30 saps for an average of 20k a piece (600k...). I'm sure I could've done better on the price, but I wanted that bone helm. Of course, now that I've got it - I'm tempted to sell it...

Nothing really new to report - though jetis are doing well for me on building up a selection of mp restoring items. I'm now up to 338 mana elixirs - because before I use too many of them, I usually have to go through the 100+ salads I get from tradeins, and I usually head back to ossy when I've run out of Unagi (and the white potions from trade in). I've pretty much stopped buying lemons, but if I don't get any salads one of these times, I might pick some up - since I tend to use a potion before I'm down all the way on my mp and using an elixir is only fully effective when I am at 20 mp or less.

Most of the reason why I didn't get much done last night was because of my son - who seems to be having some trouble sleeping right now. We're working through it - but he's definitely having a hard time. Hopefully once I get the AC in his room again - the extra background noise will help calm him down. If it does - I might consider getting a white noise clock for his room - just a thought.

Well, that's about it - I was surprised that not too many were online last night - either on my buddy list or on my guild. Since I was AFK for long periods - it made it easier to step away - but it was a little strange with all the activity that I am used to.

On another note - I've been asked to become a moderator on another forum. I haven't made a full decision on it - but it will depend on what my duties will be.

Well, due to some poor financial planning this month, I have managed to get my cable internet turned off for non-payment. That being said, as soon as I get my next paycheck - I'll be back online.

In other words - I'm on a forced hiatus from all things online while at home (which includes Maple Story). I'll still be checking in here when I'm at work - but that's about it. Guess this gives everyone a chance to "catch up" - looking at you killa and bacon and chester...

Slasher - that's a good set of data points. Like I said - it doesn't jive with what I've found on my warrior - but I'll have to test it more fully and with a better number of data points. (and a data point is just a hit that you took - nothing more nothing less - a piece of data).

See you all on next Thursday.

Well, since you have no update, I'll do something =D

Today was a good day. It was friday, I had an interview for a computer science tutoring job for next semester (fall 2006), and it was raining like a softie at Brokeback Mountain.

I headed out to the Gym with my friends after dinner for badminton, but it was too busy, so we ended up working out instead. We came home, and while everyone else played poker (3 buck buyins, cheap I know), I mapled.

Aerylus hit 42 today, I had to use Aerythn's Double Shot to get the medicine with bad vibes off the darned Wraiths... Only to end up with an Icarus (1). Disappointing, but Aerythn was 60% into 41, so I have another crack at it.

After Aerylus finished that quest, I played Aerythn, trying to get him to level. Unfortunately, since he was in Vic, he didn't have much in the way of leveling choice. First, I went to the forest of wisdom, finished off Cody's quest for a maple flag (I needed one last candle). Then, when the green mushies dropped nothing, I went to the subway. Amazingly, over 50% of the maps in the subway were hacked one way or another. Seriously, what the hell?

Then I remembered Sleepywood, quite a nice dungeon. And at 1AM, it lacked people! I found an empty Tunnel 1 map easily, but I kept getting disconnected (stupid internet!). None of the horny mushrooms dropped anything (except potions and their caps), nor did anything else I fought there.

I hit 80%... after 2 hours. Wow, that's pretty bad. Around 79%, two guys came into the tunnel, and one asked another: "Do you have any horny mush caps I can have? I need 100." The other responded with, "Nope, I have 30 but I need 100 too,"

So they turn to me, and I did have the 200. I climbed up to where they were, and dropped 100 for the first guy. He picked it up, and the other guy, not realizing I was going to drop another 100, got very angry. First a "Hey!" and then, as the first guy left with the caps he needed, the second guy chased after. I yelled for him to come back, but to no avail.

Five minutes later, person B was back, asking if I had more caps. Of course I did, so I dropped some. Angrily, he declared "I'm going to defame him!", and then asked how many I gave the first guy. I responded truthfully, and then asked him why he would defame person A. His response: "Because I feel like it."

I'm starting to regret being nice to people in MS, but not yet cynical enough to care that much. In terms of drops, I got a wooden shield off Bubblings and a Grey Able Armour as well. Oh well, maybe tomorrow will be better?

Zabulba
Posted 5/26/2006 11:45:25 PM
That guy was going to find the other guy and defame him for no reason, instead of faming you for giving the caps. Maple is pretty sad sometimes.

Well I have a big update for you guys and girlsI started the night at about 50% and I was training at jeti I gained close to 12% the first hour I was there and I happened to find an empty map.... Well I was at about 65% or a little more by the time 2x exp came around when that started I lost my map :"( I was like Oh well I am just gonna go find somewhere else so I head over to Jr Pepe on floor 1 of Orbis Tower....I trained there for about 20 minutes before finally getting fed up with changing channels and being forced out by 3-4 people coming in at a time... So I say hmmm I have about 9 trade ins of jeti skins and my inventory is almost full I guess I am gonna head back to orbis.... So I head back to Orbis and I think hmm... I am gonna go trade in the skins....Well first set I got 5 screws I was like dam good deal... Then next set Salad then white potions and such well by the end of trade ins I had 80 Salads (20 each time) and I had 153 white pots which I had about 70 before that or so...Well on my 8th trade in I got the scroll from them 10 Topwear for def I was like SWEET so I was pretty happy...(trade ins still only give you 500 even during 2x exp)Well bye that time I was 82% or so then I went to Disposed Flower Garden I was training rather uncaringly killing things asking trespassers to leave and such.... Well during the time of 1 guy (50+ warrior) he killed a nependeath or a Lunar Pixie and a Korean Fan dropped and I was like OUCH that sucks I been training here for a while and I havent gotten any drops... the guy dropped the K-Fan and let me have it for nothing and left I was all O.O thx and he left.... Also sometime during my training and chatting with friends someone came into my channel and Vacced about 10-20 nependeaths into the lower right corner... I was like HOLY **** so I kill them all and collect my loot nothing eventful about that....I then made my level after a while and thats about it nothing else really eventful happened.... oh and I got a Blue Lumati (F) when killing jeti's...So other than those few things my night was uneventful... I actually feel I had a great night overall for the first time in a long time

Well I'm at home sick again... hence the lack of updates here (I usually only update when I'm at work and have the time to reflect).

Anyway, I'm still level 51, though I am at 90% - so that'll be finished soon. I just gathered the 100 dark nependeath seeds for the nependeath juice quest and in the process of gathering them, earned 300+ lunar pieces - one of which turned in for a Shield scroll (which unfortunately failed).

Previous to that, I've been down at jr. yetis for most of the level, turning in around 1500 skins so far. The transformed ones still give me a decent amount of trouble, but at least I've got things working well enough to not die by them.

Drops have been pretty much non-existant, though in the process of the 1500 skins or so, I have gathered almost 30 mithril ores - which surprised me. I did get a 52 atk Red Viper and an average Mithril Wolfskin from the jr. yetis. Today, I also got a Red lined kismet from the lunar pixies - so I guess the drops haven't been horrible - just not up to the speed I am used to.
Anyway - until I feel better - my schedule will probably be a little off.

@slasher - thanks for the numbers. They seem to be running in the same frameset - but I'll doublecheck that when I'm feeling a little better as well.

@mlugia - kitties are certainly fine - and with the cake spawn I can definitely understand it. You should check out tobos in a few levels - I made a decent profit and speed there - especially when I partied with Bacon or with another sin/bandit. Good luck on your icarus cape quest. If you don't get the icarus 2 I think it should probably be on the top of your list of things to get. It makes so much of a difference in training on your own.

Well, being sick has not been too much fun but I'm hanging in there I guess.

Yesterday, I got the opportunity to play a fair amount during the 2x drop time in the evening - and in that time I got 2 magician overalls, 1600+ jeti skins and a good deal of money while partying with SwiftBacon. I still don't have an efficient process for making them mob up (I end up taking too much damage), but jr. yetis drop in 1-2 PS now, so taking them out one by one isn't too bad.

I also finished up the next leg of the nependeath juice quest and am on to the part that needs the nependeath honey. I'm a little surprised I haven't gotten any yet - but I'm patient and will continue trying. In the short term though, I have headed back to Victoria and finished the first part of the Alligator quest.

I'm also now a decent leg into level 52, and I have to say the more time I spend at jetis, the more impressed I am with the exp rate there. Although I haven't timed it - the training there is very smooth and the occasional transformed jeti just keeps the screen interesting.

While in Victoria, I'll once again try to finish up some quests. The 2nd part of the alligator one should be no trouble and I'll have to see what is needed for the Special sauce from Estelle, but that will also be finished. Once I'm done with that, it is likely I'll return to Ossy and to the disposed garden until I get my honey.

Over the weekend I did spend around 1.2 million on scrolls in the FM - most notably a Str cape scroll 60% (that failed) and a couple of others. My helm is now +1 with 10%, my shield is +1 with 10% and has 1-2 slots left.

I'm a little disappointed that I haven't gotten my Glove atk scrolls from the person who auto-won my auction. He will be the 2nd person that I've left negative feedback to unless that trade goes through (not that the feedback means much). Its too bad too - because I was really hoping to get going on my gold brist.

I did get the trade for my emerald hildons. I promptly tried a 60% speed scroll on it, but was chagrined when it failed. Looking over my options for shoe scrolls, speed seems to make the most sense to me - since my accuracy is right where I want it at the moment and I don't particularly care about extra jump or avoidability. If the hildons don't end up scrolled well, I could very well just upgrade at level 60 to the camel boots.

Hey dave, glad to hear you're still kicking even while sick =D

I saw a soul singer going for ~1mil on Basil, but it was 65 watk (perfect according to HS), and if I do scrape out the money, and assume it scrolls half-decently, I'm looking at something that can replace a Katar even. Although the fruity "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" animation might get annoying after... say 5%. Just a thought I've been pondering anyways. Got a wand and claw scroll off Jr grupin/cellion last weekend, and assuming the trades go through, I will have ~ 2 million in mesos, enough to buy that singer.

Any infinite wisdom on this topic? =D

(btw, I read Master Robos (the red one) drop Katars as well. Did you fight them extensively at all, or did you just stick to Tobos? If so, any comments on them?)

I'd have a hard time justifying the 1mil on a sword that is about equivalent to the jeweled katar (which can be bought for anywhere from 300-500k for above average). The exception is for the accuracy bonus - which is useful against Alishar if you are going to do the PQ - but for little else. The only other side would be to get the bonus to damage (from scrolling it better than what the cutlus is), but that will only get you so far.

Personally, I would suggest starting to look for a katar now for a good price (mine was a 69atk for 300k and I've seen them a couple of times for that price). But that's really up to you.
As to master robos - I used to think they were much better than I do now. In the mid 40s, you can take them out, but it will be a lot of attacks - and their bump damage really takes a toll on you. In other words, you can train there, but your exp rate and profit will be fairly low. I probably trained a total of 100-200% there between 45-50 and while the exp rate wasn't horrible - I did better at Tobos. I did not get a katar while I fought them either.

Tobos on the other hand are great. They have a reasonable defense that most lower levels will despise (other than warriors) and don't give enough exp to make higher levels want to train on them. At level 45, I think, I could take 1 down in 2-3 PS, rarely in 1. With haste - it was pretty good - and that's with either an assassin (like Bacon) or a bandit (like one of my guildmates). White Guiltians and Dark Artens also sell very well - so profit is very good here too.

Congratulations on those drops - I didn't get any scrolls while I was at kitties - in fact the best scroll I've gotten from a drop was a 60% cape magic defense scroll I think.

And when I said "about equivalent to a jeweled katar" - replace "jeweled" with "Hero's" and Katar with "Gladius" ...

Okay - I've taken Slasher's numbers above and was a little confused... first of all, I would like to know how many data points you had for each level of wdef you listed. If it was only 2-3 - then that might explain some of the discrepency. If it was much more than that - wdef is a much more complex formula than first guessed:

If the defensive values are taken as 2.5 wdef = 1 damage reduction, it works fine for defense 0,5 and 16 - but nothing higher. If we make it 3 wdef = 1 damage reduction - the numbers are much closer - but then - those go against what has been discovered (albeit with relatively small data sets) from myself and mlugia. The most notable difference between your data and mine and mlugia's is the fact that you are a magician while we are both fighters.

The next time I play, I will do a more intensive discovery into this on my warrior and see how things go. I'm in Victoria right now and I'd rather do this against jr yetis - but I'm sure I can find a usable creature for this test.
